Zhang Shanjia, Ph.D., is a Young Researcher in the Department of Physical Geography, School of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Lanzhou University. He completed his undergraduate, master's, and doctoral studies at Lanzhou University (2012-2022). His research focuses on environmental archaeology, particularly the study of human survival environment changes and human activities during the mid to late Holocene in the central and eastern regions of the Silk Road. He is the principal investigator of four projects, including the National Natural Science Foundation of China’s Youth Fund and the China Postdoctoral Science Foundation’s Postdoctoral Fund. He has published 25 academic papers, with eight papers as the first or corresponding author in journals such as Catena, Science Bulletin, Chinese Science Bulletin: Earth Science, and PNAS NEXUS. One of his articles has been recognized as a highly cited paper by CNKI, with over 550 citations and an H-index of 13 (data from Google Scholar). His research achievements have been reported by platforms such as the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), Chinese Science News, China Meteorological News, and have been selected as Research Highlights by Nature.
